Learning Disability Coalition

Local Campaigning Guide

The threat of cuts looms large over the lives of people with a learning disability.

Action is needed to stop vital local services being cut around England.

Cuts to services will mean a cut in lives.

Its not just talk. The new Government has announced that there will be cuts in public spending.  Cuts made by the government will be passed down to your local authorities to implement.

In December, Local Authorities will be told how much money they will be getting for the next financial year but the decision around what they are going to spend it on are being made now.  They will not get enough money to do everything that they want and will have to make decisions about what services they will keep and what they will cut.

If these front line services matter to you, then take action now!

Your Local Authority, Primary Care Trust, MP and local Councillor need to understand that social care is a frontline service and a priority.  These services are vital because they provide support for everyday activities such as eating, bathing, dressing, health, housing, learning and safety.

It is much more difficult for councillors to make cuts when there is a lot of publicity and opposition from members of the public.  Make a difference now!

Get Involved!

Across the country, people will be getting together to take action to stop cuts in their local area and protect the frontline.  We need to show local councillors that if cuts are made to social care support, this would be a serious incident for people with a learning disability, their families and carers.
