Learning Disability Coalition reaction to the Comprehensive Spending Review
10 October 2007
The 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review is neglectful of the needs of people with a learning disability. The government is ignoring the poor state of the social care system and the affect that dwindling services are having on the lives of people with a learning disability.
Consistent cuts in services to people with a severe learning disability are removing the basic right to a bearable standard of living. They are also putting an unnecessary and additional strain on the families and carers of people with a learning disability who are left to make up for the deficit of care.
As more and more people with a learning disability live beyond childhood, a growing demographic pressure is being placed on an already struggling social care system. Any government that continues to ignore this fact is storing up serious social problems for a later date.
